DACA Upheld in U.S. Supreme Court! #HereToStay |
|
Dear MinKwon Community:
We celebrate with our fellow immigrants and DREAMers the U.S. Supreme Court's majority ruling today, prohibiting Trump and his administration from rescinding DACA on the grounds that their process was arbitrary and capricious and violated the Administrative Procedure Act.
This decision was made possible because of the courage of DREAMers, immigrants, and allies across the country who organized, shared their stories, and built a multiracial and inter-generational movement that continues to grow.
Although our immigrant communities achieved a critical victory, the pathway forward is still far from secure. The SCOTUS decision ultimately asserts the White House administration, although having the authority to terminate DACA, did not do it properly, which provides an opportunity for Trump to try again. Trump has already been responding to the ruling by tweeting the need for more conservative Justices and calling for support for his re-election. Conservative leaning Chief Justice Roberts joining the other liberal Supreme Court Justices on the decision was unexpected, and we should remember four of the five conservative Justices still sided to allow the potential and forceful separation of nearly 800,000 families.
The same agenda and system that has been assaulting immigrants is responsible for the assault on Black and Brown people, women, LGBTQ people, trans and gender non-conforming people, people with disabilities, and low-income and working people.
Across the country, we have been witnessing firsthand that organizing works, protests work, active solidarity and coalition building works, and that we have the power to effect change. It is a time to focus, organize, and build. We will not and cannot stop until we achieve equity and dignity for everyone, including protecting DREAMers and immigrants with Citizenship for All.
