| | We had an amazing year in 2018. Continue your support for the new year! Hello 황광우 선생님:
Thank you for supporting the MinKwon Center for Community Action in our 34th year of serving, organizing and defending low-income Korean and Asian immigrant communities! As the year winds down, we want to highlight our past accomplishments of 2018 that show how our four program areas - Advocacy & Organizing, Civic Participation, Social Services and the Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) - flourished with your support! In 2018: - We registered over 80,000 new immigrant voters since our voter registration efforts first began in 2004.
- We called 36,577 voters, canvassed to 9,905 voter households, and delivered 30,115 voter guides and 12,179 text alerts to remind our communities to vote in the 2018 midterm elections - a historic election for immigrant voter turnout.
- We renewed 259 DACA cases and defended 114 undocumented immigrants from deportation.
- We secured SNAP benefits for 259 community members that helped feed their families.
- We ensured that 92 low-income seniors would be able to keep their homes by filing for SCRIE benefits.
- We helped 22 immigrant tenants improve improve their living conditions and prevent evictions.
- We sent over 3,000 petitions signed by low-income Korean seniors demanding local officials address the senior housing crisis.
- We advocated with Green Light NY to pass legislation that allows drivers' licenses to undocumented communities.
- Our YEP members led workshops on mental health with their peers, filing an educational gap in their schools.
Celebrate our accomplishments and make a gift that invests in the future of MinKwon for the new year! |
