| Thank you to our Korean, Asian American and immigrant communities in NYC and across the country for showing up and voting in the 2018 midterm elections. We thank all our volunteers who did get-out-the-vote and exit polling efforts for our communities, especially high school students, DACA, Green Card and visa recipients, and undocumented people who've served tirelessly for a better democracy that they're actively organizing to participate in. Thank you Asian American Legal Defense Fund (AALDF) for providing the support and resources to have over 600 Asian American volunteers, including volunteers from MinKwon, do exit polling across 14 states yesterday! |

MinKwon Rejects Anti-Immigrant “Public Charge” Proposal: Demand DHS to Stop the New Rule! |

| On October 10, the Department of Homeland Security proposed a new rule that is available on Regulations.gov that would expand the definition of a "Public Charge". Trump's Department of Homeland Security is attempting to punish immigrant families by giving federal immigration officials the power to deny Green Cards and visas to immigrants who are using public benefits including food stamps, Medicare and affordable housing, under the proposed new rule. The new rule is currently under a public online comment period that is open NOW until Monday, December 10: submit your comment to DHS demanding they stop the proposed changes and stop punishing immigrant families! |

Safeguarding Immigrant Participation of the 2020 Census |

As a steering committee member of NY Counts 2020, MinKwon joined several press conferences and rallies this past month in support of immigrant participation in the 2020 census. On October 8, we gathered to announce a federal trial the New York Immigration Coalition is a plaintiff in against the Trump administration's attempt to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census, which is expected to significantly suppress immigrant participation. The case, New York Immigration Coalition v. the Department of Commerce, has been consolidated with a similar case filed by the state of NY which argues that the citizenship question is a racially motivated form of discrimination.
On October 29, we gathered in front of the steps of Federal Hall on Wall Street to announce our upcoming 2019 state campaign lobbying the state of NY to invest $40 million to community-based organizations, including NYIC and MinKwon, for census outreach and education for immigrant communities. |

| Meeting with HPD Regarding NYC's Senior Housing Crisis |

| Korean American senior community members and MinKwon community organizers sat down with NYC's Dept. of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) on October 31 to unveil our 2018 Senior Housing Report. Korean and other low English proficient seniors in our communities face numerous obstacles in finding, applying and following up on senior housing projects, often leaving them stuck in a state of economic instability. We outlined three solutions that HPD can take to provide greater equity for Korean and LEP seniors, and we thank the reps. who sat down to listen to seniors’ experiences firsthand and start new dialogue. Tabling at 2018 Korean Parade and Festival! |

| MinKwon had a great time tabling at the 2018 Korean Parade and Festival on October 6 in Koreatown, Manhattan! Three MinKwon staff members and two board members informed the public about our history, our work, and how to get involved. We raised funds by selling MinKwon bags and t-shirts, and we registered three new immigrant voters! A huge thank-you to Korean American Association of NY for organizing another fun and lively celebration for the entire city! |
